Glossary

Personal brand archetype: a plain definition.

Twelve characters that tell people what to expect from you.

The definition

An archetype is a familiar character that people recognise quickly. In branding, it is the character your communication plays consistently: the teacher, the rule-breaker, the steady hand. When people can recognise a character, they know what to expect from you.

The twelve we use

Innocent, Sage, Explorer, Outlaw, Magician, Hero, Lover, Jester, Everyman, Caregiver, Ruler and Creator. Most people feel a pull toward two or three. You have a primary archetype and usually a secondary one.

What it helps with

  • Tone: how you write and speak.
  • Choices: what you would never post.
  • Consistency: whether each piece feels as if it comes from the same person.

An example

A Sage-style professional tends to be trusted for how they think. In the room, they bring one clear idea to a meeting. On the record, they publish the reasoning behind decisions. On screen, they write long enough to teach and short enough to finish. The risk is waiting until the thinking is complete before sharing it. Each archetype page on our site sets this out for its own character.

Common misunderstandings

  • An archetype does not limit who you are. It gives your communication a consistent centre.
  • It does not replace research about your audience.
  • It is not clinical, and the report is not a hiring test.

How Rise Personal uses the term

The free Brand DNA Report asks twenty-two quick questions, gives you a primary and secondary archetype, three words and a plan, and runs in your browser without sending your answers to us. It is a starting point for a conversation, not a verdict, and each archetype page explains what it looks like in the room, on the record and on screen.

Questions people ask

Is an archetype a personality type?

No. It describes how you are received and how you choose to communicate, not a fixed trait.

Can I have more than one archetype?

Yes. Most people have a primary and a secondary, and the Report shows both.

Does the report store my answers?

No. It is worked out in your browser, and we receive only the name and contact details you give us.
